Why do attacks land on Friday nights and long weekends?

An attacker who starts on a Friday evening has the whole weekend before anybody notices, which turns a response time measured in minutes into one measured in days. It is not superstition and it is not coincidence. It is the single easiest thing an attacker can control, and it costs them nothing.

The practical consequence is that out of hours coverage is not a luxury item on a service plan. It is the difference between an incident and a disaster, and it is why the question worth asking any provider is what happens at 11pm on a Saturday.
